Band Statement:
Inver Hills Community Band (IHCB) is a growing organization that strives to perform quality music in a variety of different performance venues. We welcome new members but do expect a certain skill level from all players, therefore we do require auditions.
Expectations:
Good attendance at Monday night rehearsals is imperative. Because we are a small band, we need to have a commitment from all members to attend rehearsals and perform at concerts throughout the year. It is understandable that illness or work commitments may cause you to miss an occasional rehearsal and that family vacations may have you out of town, thus missing a summer concert, but we need to have an honest and sincere effort on the part of all members to participate faithfully at rehearsals and concerts throughout the season.
Audition Requirements:
Entry into the Inver Hills Community Band will be by a short audition consisting of a few major scales, a scale in thirds, arpeggios and a chromatic scale. Short etudes in using various meters and rhythms will be used. Audition time will be approximately 10 minutes in length.
The audition music has been very carefully put together to be fair to the prospective band member and also to the IHCB. The audition sheets are attached as we are not expecting sight-reading as a required part of the process. The etudes and scales will weigh heavily on whether you will be accepted.
Please allow enough time to prepare yourself for a successful audition before you call or contact for an audition time. Everybody that does an audition has his or her degree of nervousness. If you prepare hard enough, the audition goes better for you. We do not expect a perfect score to pass, but you must show us you have enough good playing skills to join a very good performing band.
Audition Scheduling Process:
After you have communicated your interest in joining the band through the Contact Us page, you will be called to work out an audition day and time that is convenient for both you and the Music Director. You will be told the results after the audition. If you fall short of passing, you may re-audition at a later date.
